Prerequisite: Participants must have some basic knowledge on remote sensing.

Overview: The focus of the workshop is processing, interpretation and application of radar imagery. We will begin with basics and physics of radar remote sensing, current and future prospects, then involve with radar image processing and applications in disaster mapping, topographic modeling, and measuring of building sinking. Participants will be trained with state-of-the-art commercial radar image processing software - SARscape and some other free tools. The Workshop will accommodate 20 participants with our lab computers, and some more each at his/her own computer.

Workshop training topics:

  • Radar intensity processing, includes focusing, speckle filtering, orthorectification, calculating backscattering coefficient, and geocoding
  • InSAR/DInSAR processing, includes generating DEM, earthquake related displacement maps
  • Polarimetric data processing, and
  • Permanent scatterer interferometry for measuring building sinking, land subsidence with millimeter level accuracy

Facilitators:

  • Dr. Tim Kusky, CES/Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, St Louis University
  • Dr. Wasit Ghulam, Center for Environmental Sciences, St Louis University

Workshop Cost: Free. Participants are responsible for their food, lodging and campus parking.
